- Auto Air Receivers / dryers
- Auto Air Receiver driers are used only with expansion valve systems and serve two functions. They serve as a temporary storage container for excess refrigerant and excess air compressor oil commonly referred to as PAG oil. They also remove excess moisture from the emtire air conditioning system.
Auto Air Accumulators serve the same basic purpose as a receiver drier and are used with orifice tube automobile air conditioning systems.
- New and Remanufactured Auto Air Compressors
- The cost difference between new and rebuilt or remanufactured Automotive Air compressors is generally very little. Modern Auto Air uses new compressors whenever available unless you request us to do otherwise. In the long run this will save you time and money.
- Auto Air Fan Clutches
- An Auto Air fan clutch is a mechanical device or “clutch” that engages the cooling fan when temperatures in your car's engine compartment are elevated. This is critical at low speeds or in traffic when natural air flow through the airco unit's radiator and condenser is not great enough to remove the heat from the engine and AC system.
A faulty fan clutch in the air conditioning unit can cause overheating and damage to your engine as well, as high pressure and reduced performance of your air conditioning or “Auto AC” system. High pressure will usually always lead to damaged A/C components and loss of “Freon” R134A or R12.
- Auto Air Conditioner Cooling Fans
- Cooling fans for your auto air system can either be mechanically controlled by a fan clutch or powered by an electric motor - sometimes referred to as a radiator fan or condenser fan, depending on the application.
A faulty cooling fan can cause overheating and damage to your engine as well as high pressure and reduced performance of your air conditioning or “Auto AC” system. High pressure will almost always lead to damaged A/C components and loss of “Freon” R134A or R12.

High pressure A/C cut off switches turn the air conditioning compressor off when pressures become too high. High pressure is usually a result of a bad cooling fan or blocked condenser or radiator
Low pressure AC cut off switches turn the AC compressor off when pressures are too low.
Low pressure is usually the result of low refrigerant levels or simply low demand for cooling such as in cooler weather. This is what causes the A/C compressor to cycle on and off. Cycling is normal under moderate ambient temperatures. Rapid cycling during hot weather is a sign of low refrigerant R134A / R12 levels.
Binary switches perform the function of both High and Low pressure switches.
- Auto Air Relays
- Car, Truck, Van and SUV air conditioning and heating systems (HVAC system) all contain various control relays that control the flow of electricity to components such as the AC compressor and blower motor. These relays are actuated by pressure switches and power control modules (PCM).

- Auto Air Condensers
- The condenser for your Auto Airco unit is also a heat exchanger. Its function is to give off heat and remove it from the system. A condenser looks much like your engine's radiator and usually sits in front of it, many times being cooled by the same radiator fan or condenser fan. The cooling fan is essential for low speed operation when there is limited natural air flow. These fans can be electric or manually controlled by a fan clutch.
- Auto Air Evaporators
- The Auto Air Evaporator, sometimes referred to as the evaporator core, is one of the two heat exchangers in an A/C system. The evaporator is usually located inside the vehicle, often deeply hidden under the dash. Refrigerant (years ago referred to as Freon) enters the evaporator in the form of a low pressure liquid and is metered through a device called an expansion valve or orifice tube.
The evaporator is the part of the system that gets “cold” air passes through it and into the cabin through the vents in your dash. Systems prior to 1993 used Freon or R-12 from 1993 to date R-134A refrigerant is used. We replace all types on all cars, trucks, vans and SUVs
- Auto Air Heater Cores
- If your car, truck, van or SUV is not heating properly or generating enough heat, your heater core could be at fault. Blockage can often be removed improving hot water flow to restore performance.
Auto Air Heater Cores also may develop leaks and leak anti freeze or coolant into the passenger compartment, usually showing up on the passenger floor.

- Auto Air Blower motors move (or blow) air from outside or recirculate air from inside the vehicle through the evaporator / heater core case to cool, heat or defrost. Non-operating blower motors or blowers may be the result of other controls or relays and wiring. Have your system check by a qualified technician before replacing an inoperative blower motor.

- Automobile Airco - Air Flow Problems
- Poor air flow will result in reduced cooling or heating in your vehicle. Many newer cars have cabin filters much like the filters in your home HVAC system. Poor air flow is also frequently caused by broken or malfunctioning blend doors and mode doors or their actuators. - The automotive radiator has changed little over the years other than construction materials. Years ago it was cost effective to repair or “re-core” radiators. With new plastic and aluminum construction
they are more efficient and transfer heat better than copper but usually cannot be repaired. Replacement is the best option for a damaged or leaky radiator.
Leaks are often caused by corrosion or excessive temperatures that crack the plastic components. High temperature is most often caused by lack of coolant, a bad cooling fan or fan clutch. Corrosion is your radiators biggest enemy.
Coolant or “Anti Freeze” not only keeps the water from freezing in cold weather but contains corrosion inhibiters to keep the system clean and operating at peak efficiency. Most manufactures recommend a radiator flush and coolant replacement every 3 years regardless of climate.
